HÁTTÉR

Melanie Chisholm az 1990-es években kezdte pályafutását az angol Spice Girls lányegyüttes tagjaként. FELVÉTEL ÉS PRODUKCIÓ

Chisholm Rick Rubin producerrel dolgozott együtt, akivel egy évvel korábban összebarátkozott, amikor a Spice Girlsnek fel kellett volna vennie egy számot a Blackstreettel a Chef Aid: The South Park Album (1998) albumhoz, mielőtt azt törölték volna. A dokumentumfilm Melanie C Los Angeles-i életére összpontosított debütáló albumának felvételei alatt. A „Closer”, a „Something's Gonna Happen”, az „I Wonder What It Would Be Like”, az „Independence Day”, a „Northern Star” és a „Why” című dalok először a dokumentumfilmben jelentek meg.
A Northern Star megjelenésének népszerűsítése érdekében Melanie C 1999 őszén nemzetközi turnéra indult, mely során meghitt színházakat és éjszakai klubokat látogatott meg. Az album első vinyl kiadásához 2500 példányban limitált példányszámban gyártották. Az album eredeti 12 számán kívül a bakelitlemezen megtalálható volt a „Follow Me” című szám és a 2000-es újrakiadás bónusz számai. A dupla LP három játszható oldalt tartalmazott a lemezhez, a negyedik oldalon pedig az album hátlapjának metszete látható. A megjelenést követően a Northern Star a 32. helyet érte el az Egyesült Királyság hivatalos bakelitlemez-listáján.

KRITIKA

A Northern Star vegyes, de általánosságban kedvező kritikákat kapott a zenekritikusoktól. KERESKEDELMI ELŐADÁS

A Northern Star a 10. helyen debütált a brit albumlistán, az 1999. október 24-i számban. GA GA még a Northern Star album előtt adták ki promóciós CD-R kislemezként. Valójában a szám az 1999-es Big Daddy című film filmzenéjében szerepelt. I TURN TO YOU A brit énekesnő, Melanie C dala. Debütáló szólóalbumának, a Northern Starnak (1999) a negyedik kislemezeként jelent meg 2000. augusztus 7-én az Egyesült Királyságban, és Melanie második listavezető kislemeze lett az Egyesült Királyságban, az első hetében 120 000 példányban kelt el.[4] Az "I Turn to You" Ausztria, Dánia, Hollandia és Svédország slágerlistáinak élére került, valamint az amerikai Billboard Dance Club Play listájának élére is került. Háttér és felvétel A dal albumváltozatát 1999-ben vették fel. A dalt Melanie C, Rick Nowels és Billy Steinberg szerezte. IF THAT WERE ME Egy dal az angol lemezkiadótól, Melanie C-től. Rick Nowels írta és producere volt a Northern Star (1999) című szóló debütáló stúdióalbumán. Kritika A dal szövege különösen nagy kritikát kapott a profi zenekritikusoktól. Kurt B. NORTHERN STAR TOUR [2000. AUGUSZTUS 31. - 2001. AUGUSZTUS 26.] Ez volt a második koncert turné, amelyet Melanie C angol énekesnő adott elő.
